Arrival at Alfredo Vásquez Cobo Airport in Leticia

Reception, transfer to the river dock on the Amazon River

Departure by artisanal boat for the Amazon Tour. We will navigate upstream through the Yahuarcaca Gorge to the Tekuna Lodge Indigenous Reserve. (The tour through the Yahuarcaca Gorge is only possible during high water, from December to May; during low water, entry to the Tekuna Lodge Indigenous Reserve will be by land.)

After this exciting experience of navigating the wilderness trails, we will arrive at the Tekuna Lodge Indigenous Reserve.

Departure to the Yahuarcaca Lakes, for a scenic tour by artisanal boat.

Optional: Swim in Lake Yahuarcaca.

Weather permitting, we will enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Nighttime boat trip for nocturnal wildlife viewing, along the banks of the Yahuarcaca Creek in search of nocturnal birds and other jungle inhabitants whose songs and sounds create true jungle symphonies.

Return to the Tekuna Lodge Indigenous Reserve.

Day 2

Departure by boat to the Marasha Nature Reserve (Peru) (travel time 20 minutes)

Upon arrival in Peru, we walk along nature trails through floodplain forest landscapes for 2:30 minutes to the Marasha Nature Reserve (Peru).
-
During our tour, we will explore the flora and fauna species of the varzea forest on the banks of the Amazon River.

Arrival at the Marasha Nature Reserve, accommodation

Canoe or kayak trip on Marasha Lake

Birdwatching of exotic birds such as the hoatzin.

Visit to the "grandfather" ceiba tree, an imposing tree over 400 years old.

Dinner at the Marasha Nature Reserve.

Nighttime canoeing on Marasha Lake for nocturnal wildlife observation.
Day 3

Breakfast at 7:00 AM.

Departure on artisanal boats to the Amazon River (during high water) or on foot during low water.

Departure on tourist boats to Puerto Alegría (Peru) for Peruvian jungle dances and a brief presentation on Peruvian culture.
-
Departure to Monkey Island, where you will follow a trail to observe the monkeys, the dominant species on the island.
-
Arrival at the Amazon Açaí Lodge, welcome drink, reception, accommodation, and cabin check-in.

Lunch at the Amazon Açaí Lodge.

Departure for the Indigenous Community of Mocagua.
-
During our visit to the community, we will tour houses and crops.
-
Then, we will begin the hike along the Maikuchiga Trail to the monkey house (a rainforest path on dry land and flood plains).

Instruction and identification of New World primate species, their distribution, and ecology.
-
Observation of recovering monkey species such as the White-nosed, Churuco, Flying, Monk, Maicero, and Capuchin monkeys, which are part of the first stage of re-adaptation to the wild.

Talk about the monkey recovery process, behavior, ecological function, stages of return to the wild, the participation of the Mocagua community in primate conservation projects, and benefits for the community. (The visit to the Maikuchiga monkey house during the high-water season is only possible by canoe)

Night hike in the terra firma forest.
Day 4

Visit to the Moroapu maloca, Ticuna Maloca, or grandparents' house.
-
During our visit, we will learn about traditional crops with the grandparents, where we will learn about species used in traditional medicine. The grandparents will tell us stories and sing in their native language, and we will learn about indigenous Ticuna crafts such as chambira weaving and Yanchama painting (palm fibers and tree bark).

We will learn about the skills of using a blowgun and a bow and arrow.

Traditional lunch at the Moroapu Maloca.

Visit to Puerto Nariño, the natural nativity scene of Colombia, and tour the village.

Visit to the Naipata viewpoint, where we'll enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of Puerto Nariño and the Amazon River.

Departure for the Tarapoto lakes.

Visit and swim in the Tarapoto lakes.
-
Watch pink and gray Amazon river dolphins.
-
Return to Amazon Açaí Lodge.

Dinner.
Day 5

Departure for Leticia.

​​Leticia and Tabatinga City Tour by Taxi (approximately 2 hours)

Visit the Leticia market and artisan galleries, the Tabatinga Brazil-Leticia Colombia border, the Tabatinga market, the Tabatinga commercial district, and the Comara viewpoint.

Transfer to the airport one hour before the flight.

It is essential to have the citizenship card, if you are a minor, identity card, or civil registry and the authorization of the parents (if only one of the parents accompanies you and if the program requires you to leave the country), if you are a foreigner resident in Colombia the immigration card or passport, as well as the current international certificate of vaccination against yellow fever, (apply with a minimum of 10 days before the trip.) and against tetanus. (Vaccines is a preventive suggestion, but not mandatory).
